Milk Is Not a Must
Milk is not a necessity. Despite the marketing campaigns and childhood programming, no adult human requires milk from another species to thrive. We are the only animals who drink milk beyond infancy, and the only ones who take it from mothers not our own. This practice is not only unnatural, it is unnecessary.
Calcium, protein, and other essential nutrients found in milk can easily be sourced from plants, including leafy greens, beans, nuts, and fortified plant milks. The idea that cow’s milk is vital to human health is a relic of industrial agriculture and outdated dietary advice. In reality, a growing number of people are lactose intolerant or experience inflammation from dairy. The body is telling us the truth, loudly.
Meanwhile, behind every glass of milk stands a grieving mother. Her calf is taken so her milk can be bottled for human consumption. This is not nourishment, it is exploitation.
We can live and live well without milk. Choosing plant-based options is better for our health, kinder to animals, and more sustainable for the planet. What we need is compassion.
I hated milk from when I was quite small and refused to drink it, and have managed, as a result, to survive my entire life since then without it.
"The human body has no more need for cows' milk than it does for dogs' milk, horses' milk, or giraffes' milk." Dr. Michael Klaper
