Every Step Counts, but the Destination Matters Most
This meme illustrates an important truth in the journey toward veganism: the path is rarely straight, and everyone starts somewhere different. From carnivore to flexitarian, reducetarian, pescatarian, vegetarian, plant-based, and finally vegan, each stop along the way reflects progress. The message is simple but powerful, it does not matter where you begin, just that you keep going.
What sets veganism apart as the “final stop” is its ethical foundation. While plant-based eating focuses mainly on health, veganism is rooted in justice for animals. It is a commitment to rejecting the exploitation and suffering of sentient beings. Each earlier stage may reduce harm, but only veganism fully refuses to participate in the system that commodifies animals.
This meme also gently challenges the in-between stages like “bullshitarian,” a humorous jab at half-hearted efforts or contradictions in practice. But it does so without shaming. The overall tone is inclusive, reminding us that progress is more important than perfection.
The Vegan Project Global’s branding on this image emphasizes compassion, not judgment. We want people to move forward, to stay curious, and to make thoughtful choices.
The truth is, every step matters, but the goal is clear. A just, sustainable, and compassionate world begins when we reach that final stop.
I took the "bullshitarian" as the important step at seeing societal norms regarding diet and indoctrinations by monied interest groups (including politicians) as BS. Once you see the truth clearly, it's difficult to put the blinders back on. That step put the graph in high gear
