The “Crazy” Idea That Compassion Matters
In a world where kindness should be common sense, veganism is often treated as extreme. But what could be more rational than refusing to harm others when we don’t have to? A vegan is simply someone who recognizes that animals feel pain, love, fear, and joy, and believes they should not suffer for our taste, convenience, or traditions.
This “crazy idea” challenges a deeply ingrained system built on the exploitation of sentient beings. It questions the morality of industries that treat animals as commodities instead of living beings. Veganism doesn’t demand perfection, just intention—a commitment to reduce harm wherever possible.
Some call it radical, but what’s truly radical is breeding billions of animals into existence just to kill them. What’s radical is destroying the planet’s forests and water systems to feed livestock while millions go hungry.
Veganism is not about purity. It’s about compassion, consistency, and justice. And in a culture that profits from violence and disconnection, choosing peace is, indeed, revolutionary.
Maybe it’s not the vegans who are crazy. Maybe it’s a world that thinks cruelty is normal.
Well stated, Michael. My very thoughts for the past 25 years. The world of mindless, flesh-eating zombies is crazy. Vegans are the sane souls in this scenario. Vegans are radical! Radically right in our approach to life. How can this not be obvious?
