Excellent piece. Who will listen to the wakeup call? We’ve seen how people react with vitriol and backlash when those with a large and visible platform speak truth to power (Billie Eilish recently), when will people drop defenses and open their minds to truth telling? Thank you.
On my daily early morning walks I usually encounter pigeons who I am in the habit of feeding bird seed which I carry with me in my bag. Pigeons belong to the same family as doves who symbolize peace. They feed mainly on seeds, grains, fruits, and berries. Like Gorillas who are classed as herbivores they also eat small insects. I have observed pigeons pecking at pieces of chicken discarded by humans. The sight of a pigeon eating the flesh of another bird which it would not normally eat because humans have chosen to kill chickens for food, brought home to me the type of world our behaviour creates, a world out of alignment with the natural order. This is not their normal behaviour. On chicken factory farms, birds are fed with the remains of other chickens and even their own droppings. Man, in trying to use his unatural impulses to dominate his environment has created this type of situation. We need to think more about where we stand in relation to other animals, how we are influencing the life around us, and our place in the universe, as well as the future of the planet.
