An upcoming vegan zombie film will feature plant-based longevity expert Dr. Michael Greger and journalist Jane Velez-Mitchell. Releasing in 2025, A44 is set to redefine the zombie genre with a compelling pro-vegan message. This groundbreaking film unites horror, comedy, and compassion, creating a cinematic first that’s as entertaining as it is thought-provoking.
The Storyline
The film follows a college student investigating the meat and dairy industry's ties to a mysterious illness that’s transforming the community into mindless killers. With humor, horror, and an eye-opening narrative, A44 challenges viewers to reflect on societal norms and the ethics of food production.
The Visionaries Behind the Film
A44 is a collaborative masterpiece from Chris Cooney and Brooklyn Hudson, two seasoned vegans with over 20 years of advocacy and creativity.
Chris Cooney, known as The Vegan Zombie (TVZ), brings his passion for storytelling and plant-based living to the forefront. Cooney, whose YouTube channel mixes vegan cooking with zombie apocalypse themes, wrote the original script and stars in the lead role.
Brooklyn Hudson, an accomplished writer and filmmaker, joins as co-writer, producer, and director. He’s best known for the award-winning thriller novel Wishbone and several short and feature-length films. A longtime fan of Cooney’s channel, Hudson reached out to collaborate after learning about the script.
A Star-Studded Cast
Joining Cooney are Dr. Michael Greger, who plays a college professor in a role written specifically for him, and Jane Velez-Mitchell, founder of UnchainedTV, a nonprofit vegan streaming network. The cast also features actors from iconic films such as E.T. – The Extra-Terrestrial, Elf, The Goonies, and Platoon. Cooney described working with these legends as a “dream come true,” citing their influence on his passion for film.
A Plant-Based Production
A44 sets a new standard in ethical filmmaking:
Vegan gourmet meals for the cast and crew are provided by chef Ron of Creative Catering, a Central New York company specializing in vegan and farm-to-table cuisine.
Special effects makeup by Georgy Schminky of SyFy’s Face-Off will feature cruelty-free materials, using plant-based meats for realistic organ and body part effects.
The Mission
Cooney and Hudson aim to bring veganism to mainstream audiences by infusing the film with humor and relatable themes. A percentage of the proceeds will support farm animal sanctuaries, further amplifying its compassionate message.
Coming Soon
The film’s trailer, released December 13, has already generated buzz, and the team is raising funds to complete production. They hope for a dual theatrical and Netflix release, ensuring A44 reaches a global audience.
Prepare for A44—a zombie tale with heart, humor, and a message that could inspire audiences to see the world through a different lens.
