A Surprisingly Solid Standard for What We Eat
My Favorite Vegan Memes
Claiming "I don’t eat anyone who farts" is childish and, annoyingly for meat-eaters, more morally coherent than most defenses of eating animals.
Why? Because farting is a dead giveaway that we are dealing with a living animal, not an abstract product. Something with digestion, metabolism, a body, and a point of view. You know, a someone. The joke works because it collapses the polite fiction that bacon comes from nowhere and pork chops simply appear in the refrigerated section like a blessing from the grocery gods.
Please share this meme. Every share helps more people see a truth worth noticing, question what they have been taught, and consider a more compassionate and responsible way of living.
Animals are not inert commodities. They eat, sleep, feel, react, bond, panic, and yes, produce gas with varying degrees of social grace. A pig is not less morally relevant because humans renamed her “food” before killing her. That is branding, not ethics.
The meme is funny because it uses the most undignified biological fact imaginable to make a serious point. We already recognize that bodily functions belong to living beings, not objects. Nobody says the sofa digested lunch badly. Nobody worries the lamp has intestinal distress. But a pig? A pig is alive in exactly the way that should interrupt our appetite.
So the line is absurd, but clarifying. Once you understand that the being on your plate was never a thing, the humor sharpens into recognition. Suddenly, dinner starts looking less like cuisine and more like a failure of imagination, empathy, and vocabulary.
